MIDBRAIN SURFERS + SON OF DAVEWith Special Guest Leonard “Lewsh” Shaw One night. Three sets. One seriously strange and groovy trip. Winnipeg’s Midbrain Surfers bring their genre-defying experimental sound to Public Domain for an immersive night of improvised music, world fusion, jazz, ambient textures and psychedelic grooves. Formed in 2023, the quartet combines overtone and throat singing, didgeridoo, electric oud, fretless bass, percussion, looping and electronics to create spontaneous soundscapes that are impossible to neatly put in a box. Joining them is Son of Dave, the one-man blues powerhouse of Winnipeg-born musician Benjamin Darvill, best known to many as a former member of the Juno Award-winning Crash Test Dummies. Armed with harmonica, beatboxing, looping, vocals and a whole lot of rhythm, Son of Dave turns traditional blues into a raw, funky and completely unique live experience. His music has taken him around the world, with appearances and tours alongside acts including Sleaford Mods, Supergrass, Iggy & The Stooges, UB40 and The Yardbirds. Also joining the night is Winnipeg multi-instrumentalist Leonard “Lewsh” Shaw on saxophones and flute. Shaw brings decades of experience to the stage, including nearly 30 years performing with the touring version of The Guess Who, along with work alongside legendary artists such as Bo Diddley, Del Shannon and Ben E. King.
